Crowns & Bridges

Restoring every tooth to its best
Simply explained.

What are Crowns & Bridges?

Simply and clearly explained

Your tooth needs help? We have the solution.

The crown — a protective helmet for your tooth

When a tooth is severely damaged — for example by deep decay or after root canal treatment — a filling may no longer suffice. A crown encases the tooth like a protective cap, restoring its natural shape, colour and function.

The bridge — when a tooth is missing

When a tooth is missing, a gap forms. A bridge closes this gap by anchoring firmly to the neighbouring teeth. It looks like real teeth and fits so securely that you can eat and speak normally.

When do I need a crown or bridge?

Severe decay: Your tooth is badly damaged and a filling is no longer enough

Root canal: Your tooth has had root canal treatment and needs extra protection

Gap: A tooth is missing and the gap needs to be closed

Aesthetics: You would like a more attractive tooth shape or colour

What options are available?
Metal crown
Robust and durable. Not tooth-coloured, preferred for back teeth. Covered by insurance for posterior teeth.
Veneered crown
Metal inside, ceramic outside — giving a natural appearance. The classic for visible teeth.
All-ceramic
Completely metal-free, natural beauty. Ideal for front teeth and metal allergies. The highest quality option.
Partial crown
Covers only the damaged part. More conservative, preserving more natural tooth structure.
Our promise: At FRYDENT we take time to explain all options clearly — transparently and without pressure. Together we find the solution that suits you, your wishes and your budget.
How the treatment works

Step by step — so you know what to expect

Phase 1 — Consultation & Planning
1
Examination
We examine your tooth carefully — with X-ray and clinical assessment.
2
Consultation
What options are available? Was zahlt die Kasse? Was kostet es Sie? Wir erklären alles in Ruhe.
3
Treatment & Cost Plan (HKP)
We prepare a detailed plan with all costs and submit it to your insurer. Only after approval do we begin treatment.
Phase 2 — Tooth Preparation
1
Anaesthesia
Everything is carried out under local anaesthesia — you feel nothing!
2
Prepare the tooth
The tooth is carefully shaped so the crown fits perfectly.
3
Take impression
Using precision impression material or a digital scanner, we create an exact model for the lab.
4
Match tooth colour
We select the shade so the crown perfectly matches your natural teeth.
5
Fit temporary crown
You immediately receive a temporary crown to protect your tooth and let you eat normally.
Phase 3 — Fitting the Finished Crown/Bridge
1
Trial fitting
We check: Does everything fit? Is the colour right? Does the bite feel correct?
2
Fitting
The crown or bridge is permanently fixed with special cement — rock solid!
3
Fine adjustment
We check the bite, polish the edges and ensure everything sits perfectly.
Timeline: From first examination to finished restoration usually takes 2–4 weeks (incl. insurance approval and lab work). During this time you wear a temporary crown.
What does it cost?

Transparent and fair — how we calculate

How cost reimbursement works

Your statutory health insurance pays a fixed subsidy ("Festzuschuss") — regardless of which material you choose. You pay the remaining amount yourself.

The subsidy is at least 60% of the standard treatment. With a well-maintained bonus booklet it increases:

Bonus bookletSubsidyYour contribution
Without / irregular60%40%
5 years regular70%30%
10 years regular75%25%
Hardship regulation — for low-income patients

If your monthly gross income is below €1,582 (single persons, 2026), your health insurance covers 100% of standard treatment. A higher subsidy may also be possible at slightly higher incomes. Please ask us — we are happy to help!

Our tip: Bring your bonus booklet to every appointment! Regular check-ups can save you hundreds of euros on dental prosthetics.

At FRYDENT, we value transparent and understandable costs.

What influences your price:

Insurance subsidy & bonus booklet
Depending on your bonus booklet, your health insurance covers 60–75% of costs.

Scope of treatment
Single crown or bridge spanning several teeth.

Material & fabrication
Metal, all-ceramic or CEREC directly in our practice.

Choice of laboratory
Gässler Premium, MDH Smart — you decide.

The patient contribution for a crown is usually between €500 and €1,000. For bridges the amount may be higher.

You will always receive a personal treatment and cost plan before treatment begins — transparent and with no hidden costs.

Care & Aftercare

How to make your prosthetic last

Brushing

At least twice daily — brush especially thoroughly at the crown margin!

Interdental Spaces

Use floss or interdental brushes daily. For bridges: use Superfloss!

Regular Check-ups

Every 6 months for a check-up — this protects your teeth and maintains your bonus booklet!

Professional Cleaning

1–2 times per year — keeps crown margins and gums healthy.

Right after placement

The anaesthetic lasts another 1–3 hours — be careful when eating to avoid biting yourself!

Slight pressure sensitivity in the first days is completely normal.

If the bite still feels "too high" after 2–3 days: Contact us — we adjust it quickly!

Avoid especially hard and sticky foods in the first week.

How long does a crown last?

With good care, a high-quality crown can last 15–25 years or even longer. Regular check-ups and good oral hygiene are key to the longevity of your dental restoration.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to your most important questions

Does the treatment hurt?
No! The treatment is carried out under local anaesthetic — you will not feel any pain during the procedure. If you experience dental anxiety, please let us know. We take extra time and will find a solution together.
How long does the treatment take?
Usually 2–4 weeks from first appointment to finished prosthetic, including insurance approval (1–2 weeks) and lab work. You wear a temporary during this time.
What does a crown cost?
This depends on the type of restoration chosen. For standard care (metal crown in the posterior region), your out-of-pocket contribution is approximately 99–159 €, depending on your bonus booklet status. For higher-quality options such as all-ceramic, we always show you the exact costs in advance in the treatment plan. At FRYDENT, you always receive two laboratory options to choose from.
What if my temporary falls out?
No need to panic! Keep it and call us. We reattach it quickly. Meanwhile avoid hard and sticky foods on that side.
Can I choose between laboratories?
Yes, absolutely! We present both options with transparent costs. You decide calmly, without pressure. Both labs use certified, high-quality materials.
Can you tell they are not real teeth?
With modern dental restorations — especially all-ceramic — the difference from natural teeth is virtually undetectable. We carefully match the tooth shade so that your crown or bridge blends seamlessly with your own teeth.
Is there a guarantee?
Yes. Crowns and bridges come with a statutory warranty of 2 years. Beyond that, we are always available at FRYDENT if anything is not right. Regular check-ups help to identify any issues early.
