What makes professional dental cleaning special
Many patients are familiar with the annual tartar removal covered by health insurance. This is important basic protection — but a professional dental cleaning (PZR) goes much further.
During a PZR, we clean your teeth systematically and thoroughly — including areas your toothbrush cannot reach at home. These include the interdental spaces, the gum line, hard-to-reach niches and the backs of your teeth.
Hard deposits (tartar) — both above and below the gum line
Soft deposits (biofilm/plaque) — the bacterial film that causes cavities and gum inflammation
Discolouration — from coffee, tea, red wine or nicotine
Afterwards, every tooth surface is polished and protected with fluoride. The result: noticeably smooth, clean teeth and a fresh feeling in your mouth.
How we perform your professional dental cleaning
Our professional dental cleaning is performed by Aneta Gantert — our experienced prophylaxis specialist. Ms Gantert has been performing PZR treatments for many years with great care, delicacy and expert knowledge.
She takes individual time for each patient and addresses your personal needs. If you have sensitive teeth or gums, you are in the best hands.
For professional dental cleaning, we use the modern prophylaxis device B.A. Ulticlean UC500L — a combination device that unites two technologies:
Ultrasonic scaler: Removes hard tartar safely and efficiently — both above (supragingival) and below (subgingival) the gum line. The ultrasonic vibrations dissolve the tartar without attacking the enamel.
Powder jet cleaning (Air-Flow): A fine mixture of special powder and warm water is sprayed onto the tooth surfaces under gentle pressure. The powder penetrates the finest spaces — like fine sand that fits into every niche — removing biofilm, discolouration and soft deposits without damaging the enamel.
For particularly sensitive areas below the gum line, we use a special, ultra-finely ground powder based on tagatose. This is even gentler and enables thorough cleaning even in the deepest gum pockets.
Deciding together what makes sense for you
We are honest with you: if you really clean your teeth thoroughly at home, consistently clean your interdental spaces and have an uncomplicated dental situation, you may not need a PZR at all or only rarely.
Whether and how often professional dental cleaning is advisable depends on several factors:
Genetic predisposition: Some people form tartar faster than others — this has nothing to do with poor care.
Tendency to gum inflammation: Those prone to gingivitis or periodontitis benefit particularly from regular PZR.
Tooth position and dental situation: Tight interdental spaces, bridges, implants or orthodontic devices make home cleaning more difficult.
Saliva composition: Individual saliva quality also influences how quickly deposits form.
Lifestyle habits: Coffee, tea, smoking or certain medications can promote deposit formation.

| Leistung | Costs |
|---|---|
| Professional dental cleaning (PZR) | 90 – 150 € |
| Tartar removal (supragingival, covered by insurance) | approx. 40 – 50 € |
Tartar removal is a basic service: only the visible, hard tartar above the gum line is removed. Your health insurance covers this once per year. We also perform this very carefully at FRYDENT.
PZR goes far beyond: it includes the removal of all deposits (hard and soft, above and below the gum), powder jet cleaning, polishing and fluoridation — significantly more thorough protection for your teeth.
Statutory health insurance usually does not cover PZR. However: most supplementary dental insurance plans reimburse at least one PZR per year — some even two.

Good dental care starts at home — with the right products
In our practice, we use and recommend products from the Swiss brand Curaprox, because in our experience they offer the best combination of thoroughness and gentleness.
CS 5460 — The Toothbrush
5,460 ultra-fine Curen® filaments on a compact brush head. A conventional toothbrush has about 500 bristles — roughly ten times fewer. Each filament is only 0.1 mm thin with rounded tips.
The result: an extraordinarily dense cleaning surface that effectively removes plaque while being so gentle that neither gums nor enamel are injured. The octagonal handle enables precise guidance at every angle.
10× more filaments than conventional toothbrushesCPS Prime — Interdental Brushes
A toothbrush only cleans about two-thirds of the tooth surface. The remaining third — the side surfaces between the teeth — remains unreached. This is precisely where cavities and gum inflammation frequently develop.
CURAL® surgical wire as core — ultra-thin, extremely stable and nickel-free (suitable for allergy sufferers). Ultra-fine filaments fill the entire interdental space. Available in various sizes — the right brush for every gap.
Once a day is enough — in the evening before brushingElectric Toothbrush — Philips Sonicare
For patients who prefer an electric toothbrush, we recommend sonic toothbrushes — particularly the Philips Sonicare series. The sonic technology generates a dynamic cleaning effect through high-frequency movements that reaches even hard-to-access areas.
Whether manual or electric — what matters is the technique, not the device. We are happy to show you in the practice how to use your model optimally.
How a professional dental cleaning at FRYDENT works
Initial assessment
Ms Gantert first examines the condition of your teeth and gums. She assesses how much tartar and deposits are present and whether particular areas require special attention.
Tartar removal (ultrasound)
Hard deposits are gently removed from the tooth surfaces with the ultrasonic scaler — above and, if necessary, below the gum line.
Powder jet cleaning
The powder jet cleaning removes discolouration, biofilm and soft deposits — including areas the ultrasound cannot reach. A pleasant, light tingling — that is all you will feel.
Interdental space cleaning
The interdental spaces are carefully cleaned — with special instruments and interdental brushes. This is where particularly many bacteria accumulate.
Polishing
All tooth surfaces are polished at the end. The smooth surface ensures that new deposits and discolouration are less likely to build up.
Fluoridation
Finally, we apply a fluoride varnish to your teeth. This strengthens the enamel and provides additional protection against cavities.
Individual advice
At the end of every PZR, Ms Gantert takes time for you: she shows you where there is still room for improvement at home, recommends suitable products and answers your questions.
