No Fear of the Dentist

Are you afraid of the dentist? You are not alone. We take our time for you, at your pace.

You are not alone

Dental anxiety affects more people than you think

Here you may let go. Step by step. At your pace.
Did you know?

About one in five adults in Germany has a strong fear of visiting the dentist. Another 60–70% feel at least uneasy. You are in good company, and there is no reason to be ashamed.

Where does the fear come from?

Dental anxiety has many causes, and each one is understandable:

Bad experiences: Pain during previous treatments that stayed in your memory

Loss of control: The feeling of being at someone's mercy

Shame: Fear of being judged for the condition of your teeth

Sounds and smells: The typical "dentist smell" or the drill sound

Stories from others: Horror stories from friends or family

Our attitude: At FRYDENT there are no reproaches, no matter how long ago your last visit was. We are glad you are here now. That is the only thing that matters.
Our approach at FRYDENT

How we work with anxious patients

Your pace

We don't decide how fast things go. You do. Every treatment proceeds at your pace.

Everything is explained

Before every step, we explain exactly what will happen. No surprises. Never.

Stop signal

At any time you can stop us with a hand gesture. We stop immediately. No questions, no pressure.

No judgment

No matter what your teeth look like: we are here to help. Not to judge.

☕ Our atmosphere: Different than you think

Forget everything you associate with a dental practice. At FRYDENT it doesn't smell like a dentist. It smells like freshly brewed coffee waiting for you. Our practice is lively, relaxed and warm. People laugh here. And quite often..

No sterile, solemn silence. No unapproachable atmosphere. This is a place where you are welcome as a person. With everything that comes with it. Including your fear.

Tears are allowed

Especially the first visits can be emotional. Sometimes just arriving triggers feelings that have been building up for a long time. When tears come, they come. That is perfectly fine and no reason for shame. We are with you. And if you want, we will simply hold your hand.

Our promise to you

"With us, every treatment begins with a conversation. We listen before we begin. And if at your first appointment you just want to sit in the chair and look around, that is perfectly fine. Sometimes that is exactly the most important first step."

— Your team at FRYDENT

How we make it pain-free

Our options for anxiety-free treatment

✓ Empathetic care & practice atmosphere

The most important thing doesn't come from a syringe, but from human connection. Our team is specially trained in working with anxious patients. We take your fear seriously, explain every step in advance and work exclusively at your pace. The relaxed, warm atmosphere in our practice does the rest: here you feel more like visiting friends than a dentist.

✓ Surface anaesthesia

Before an injection is given, we numb the injection site with a special gel or spray. This means you barely feel or don't feel the needle at all. Many patients are surprised at how little they notice.

✓ Oral sedation with Dormicum

For particularly severe anxiety, we can also support the process with medication. With Dormicum (a sedative in tablet form) we treat you in a state of deep relaxation. You do not sleep. You are responsive and can cooperate with us, but feel completely relaxed and calm. Many patients describe it as "wrapped in cotton wool".

✓ Short appointment intervals

For anxious patients, we deliberately plan short intervals between appointments. Why? Because long waiting times let the fear grow again. The shorter the break, the easier the next visit becomes. Step by step, a habituation effect develops, and the fear gets smaller.

Important: The combination of empathetic care, surface anaesthesia, short appointment intervals and, if necessary, oral sedation is sufficient in the vast majority of cases to treat even highly anxious patients safely and comfortably.
Your first visit: Step by step

So you know what to expect

1

Call or online booking

Simply tell us when booking that you are an anxious patient. We will schedule extra time for you. No rush.

2

Arriving & conversation

At your first appointment, we sit down together in peace. No chair, no drill, just a conversation. We listen and discuss together what you wish for and what you are afraid of.

3

Gentle examination

When you feel ready, we take a look at your teeth. Gently and carefully. If not, we postpone it to the next appointment. No problem.

4

Joint plan

We create a treatment plan together that suits you. Small steps, no time pressure, full control. Always.

By the way: Many anxious patients are very emotional at their first visit. Some cry, and that is completely normal. It is a big step, and we know that. We are with you, with understanding and, if you wish, a hand to hold.
What if I don't want treatment at the first appointment?

That is perfectly fine! Many of our anxious patients come to their first visit just to get to know us. Sometimes it is enough to sit in the chair once and see that nothing bad happens. This step is often the most important one.

Tips for before your visit

What you can do to prepare

This helps

Schedule your appointment in the morning, less time to worry

Bring someone you trust

Bring your own music/headphones

Tell us about your fears beforehand

Small steps: first get to know us, then treatment

Please avoid

Caffeine on the morning of your appointment (increases anxiety)

Coming on an empty stomach (low blood sugar increases fear)

Letting "horror stories" unsettle you

Constantly postponing appointments. The fear only grows

Breathing technique for your dental visit

A simple method that helps immediately:

4 seconds inhale (through your nose)
4 seconds hold
6 seconds slowly exhale (through your mouth)

Repeat this 3–5 times. This technique activates your nervous system and helps calm your body.

Tip: Agree on a stop signal with us (e.g. raising your left hand). This gives you back control — and just knowing that can significantly reduce anxiety.
Frequently asked questions

Your questions, our answers

Will you judge me if my teeth are in bad condition?
No. Never. Every day we see patients who haven't been to the dentist for a long time, for all kinds of reasons. Our only goal is to help. Not to judge.
What happens if I panic during treatment?
Then we stop immediately. No ifs or buts. We take a break, you can collect yourself, and we decide together whether and how to continue. There is no pressure.
Can I bring someone with me?
Yes, of course! Having a trusted person by your side can be very reassuring. Your companion is welcome to come into the treatment room.
Will I feel the anaesthetic injection?
Thanks to our surface anaesthesia (a numbing gel we apply before the injection), most patients barely feel or don't feel the needle at all. We take extra time for this step.
Do I have to be treated at the first appointment?
No! Your first appointment can be purely a getting-to-know-you conversation. We only do what you are ready for. Step by step.
How long does an appointment for anxious patients take?
We deliberately schedule more time than usual, typically 45–60 minutes. This means no time pressure, and we can work calmly.
What do I need to know about treatment with Dormicum?
Please bring someone who can drive you home after treatment. You must not drive after taking Dormicum. Also plan a quiet rest of the day. We will discuss the details with you beforehand.
Do you offer general anaesthesia?
We offer oral sedation with Dormicum, a sedative in tablet form that keeps you awake and responsive during treatment, but completely relaxed. Combined with our empathetic care and surface anaesthesia, this is an excellent solution for most anxious patients.
